Floyd was enumerated with his parents and siblings at Dewey, Oklahoma, in the 1920 and 1930 US Censuses.

He lived at Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he registered for the draft on 16 October 1940, when he worked for a roofing company.

He registered to vote in San Joaquin County, California, in 1944, where worked as a carpenter.

He served as a Private First Class in Company C, 116th Engineering Combat Battalion, 41st Infantry Division, US Army during World War II. He enlisted on 11 July 1944 and was discharged on 9 January 1946.

Man Killed In Collision Near Niles
One man was killed when his northbound auto collided with a truck on State Highway 9 in Niles. The dead man, identified as Floyd M. Swank, about 41, 1840 Vegas avenue, Milpitas, was listed as Southern Alameda county's eighth traffic fatality. Swank, a Milpitas Ford plant worker, was apparently killed instantly when his auto crashed into the rear of a northbound truck, driven by Vernon A. Nixon, 33, 1285 Sunset boulevard, Hayward. No citations were issued. Swank's body is in custody of the deputy coroner in Centerville. Published in The Hayward Daily Review, Saturday, 4 February 1956, page 1.

KILLED IN CAR WRECK
Floyd Swank, 41, of Milpitas, Calif., was killed in a car wreck in or near that place on Saturday, February 4. Funeral and burial were on the following Wednesday. Mr. Swank was a brother of Mrs. Stell McLean of Leedey but Mrs. McLean was unable to attend the funeral because of weather and road conditions. O. S. Swank of Maysville was the only Oklahoma relative to attend. The deceased, who lived in California about 15 years, leaves a wife and four daughters.
