Sadie was a proud former resident of the Old First Ward. She had fond memories growing up "in the Ward" and being raised by her maternal grandmother and uncle. Gram and Uncle Timmy stepped in when her mother died suddenly when she was two. She spent her youth surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She graduated from St. Brigid's Grammar School and Our Lady of Victory High School.
Always known as Sadie McNamara growing up, she legally changed her name to Sarah Ann McNamara in honor of her mother, grandmother and Uncle Tim. Doing her part during WWII, she worked at the Draft Board. After the war, she was employed at BarcaLounger as a bookkeeper.
She met the love of her life when her friend suggested they grab a bite at Larry's Bar after an afternoon movie….. a friend of her brothers was tending bar. Sparks flew and by Christmas Sadie and Art were engaged. They married on Valentine's Day the next year. Married 51 years, their home was filled with laughter and joy. Anyone who came to visit had a cup of coffee (or glass of beer ) and a great conversation.
When Sadie passed away, Art, their 4 children and 9 grandchildren were by her side. She was a woman of deep faith who found strength in prayer and the Catholic Church.
