S. G. ISAMAN DEAD

Succumbed at 5 o'clock Yesterday Afternoon at Family Home - Resident of Lewiston for Forty Years and Held Many Positions of Trust

At five o'clock yesterday afternoon S.G. Isaman, who for 40 years had been a resident of Lewiston, passed away at the family home east of Lewiston. Mr. Isaman had been an invalid for 10 years and in recent weeks the decline had been rapid.

In the death of Mr. Isaman, the community has lost one of its most sterling and beloved figures, for his career has been one of usefulness and kindness, with an ever-enduring charity of view and purpose toward all. His upright character had been early recognized in all quarters when he came to Idaho to establish his home, and he was honored with many positions of public trust, all of which he served with fidelity and ability.

Mr. Isaman was born August 26, 1849, in Westmorland country, Pennsylvania, and in 1853 with his parents moved to Ohio and later to Henry County, Iowa. In the 70's he came west to Sacramento Valley, California and in 1880 to Lewiston, upon his arrival here accepting the superintendency of the Lewiston Public Schools, a position he held several years.

He then for a period became associated with D.S. Dent in the Isaman & Dent drug store but retired from the firm in 1890, when he established his home east of the city and engaged in the orcharding industry.

He served Lewiston for a period as city treasurer was probate judge and county school superintendent and served two terms as county commissioner. Mr. Isaman was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, devoted to organization, and is a post noble and past grand patriarch of the order.

On January 27, 1887, Mr. Isaman was united in marriage at Maxberg, Ore., with Miss Emma Reynolds, who survives him. Five children were born to them, all surviving. They are George, Harry, Roy and Charles and Mrs. B.F. Chase, the last-named of Winchester.
