Vera Mae Baldwin, 97, a longtime resident of the Teton City area and granddaughter of Beaver Dick Leigh, died Feb 26, 2009 in the Ashton Memorial Nursing Home.
Vera was born Aug. 4, 1911 in Shelley, the daughter of Kit Carson Thompson and Emma Leigh Thompson. She attended elementary school at Upper Presto Elementary School in Firth. She attended two years at the Sherman Indian Riverside High School in Riverside, Ca. She also attended two years at the Bacone Indian College in Muskogee, Ok., Where she received her associate degree.
She married John Roland Baldwin on Apr 12, 1945 in Dillon, Mont. they made their home near Teton City. Vera worked for many years for the state of Idaho at the Youth Services Center near St. Anthony, where she served as director of food services. She retired in 1986. "Mr. Baldwin died in Apr 2003.
She is survived by her children, Sandra L. (Blair) Owens of Boise and Martin J. (Larale) Baldwin, Spokane Wash. 4 grandchildren and 9 g-gran-children. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, one granddaughter and one grandson.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, Mar 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Cemetery at Fort Hall with Rev. Stan Simpson officiating.
