REPUBLIC - Betty Jane Holappa, age 81 former resident of Riverview Apartments in Republic and a recent resident of the Mather Nursing Center, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming.
Betty was born September 1, 1923 in Marquette, the daughter of the late Melville and Irene (Billings) Carlton. Betty was a graduate of the Graveraet High School, Class of 1943. Betty was a lifelong area resident, residing in Republic for the past 41 years. She was a member of the Republic United Methodist Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Pep-Club. Betty enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include an aunt Lottie Voce of Marquette, sisters-in-law - Beatrice Carlton of Marquette; Fanny Ithal of Iron River; Peggy Holappa of Jenks, OK, Darlene Holappa of Dearborn Heights; Ruth Lewallen of Danville, IL and Norma Manning of Negaunee; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Holappa in 1992, her parents and two brothers - George & Jim Carlton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday May 31, 2005 at the Republic United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Fegan to officiate. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Republic United Methodist Church from 1:00pm until the time of services on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Republic United Methodist Church in Betty's memory.
