AUSTIN -- There will be a memorial service for Emery Ballanger at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin with the Revs. Hank Cook and Gordon Larson co-officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Mr. Ballanger, 87, of 1101 Fourth Ave. S.W., a former security officer at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, died Tuesday (May 13, 1997) at Comforcare Care Center in Austin.
Born March 26, 1910, in Rathbun, Iowa, he moved to the Austin area after graduating from Greentop, Mo., High School in 1933 and farmed near Brownsdale. For 11 years before his retirement he was a security officer at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. On Sept. 18, 1936, he married Helen Zerby in southern Iowa. She preceded him in death. Mr. Ballanger attended Grace Baptist Church in Austin where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include a son, Albert of Ceylon, Minn.; a daughter, Elsie (Mrs. David) Groth of Austin; four grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and four sisters from southern Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
