ROY E. BACON
Bacon, Roy Eugene, Sr., 85, formerly of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away December 23, 2004, at "Mi Casa," an assisted living home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he had been living for the past four years.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 28, at 11 a.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church, located at 11970 South Elm Street, Jenks, Oklahoma, with Rev. Jane Huffstetler, presiding. Roy had become a member of St. James in 1997 and will be fondly remembered by the congregation there.
Roy was born in Cisco, Texas, March 11, 1919 to Thomas and Mamie Bacon and grew up in Abilene, Texas. HE was a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University. During World War II, Roy served in the U.S. Navy, specifically on PT patrol boats. After the war, he did some graduate work at Notre Dame University and was employed at municipal health facilities. He became employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, as a chemist, retiring from there in 1984, after 24 years of employment. Roy and his wife, Claudine were civilian sponsors of foreign military officers during their years in Lawton, Oklahoma, which led to many friendships around the world, particularly Denmark. Roy was an avid stamp collector and in retirement excelled in needlepoint. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Laura Claudine McCall Bacon, two brothers, Turner, Thomas III and a sister, Lillian Spears. Surviviors; a brother, Carl of Abilene, Texas; two sons, Roy Eugene, Jr of Tulsa, David McCall of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Patricia; and two grandchildren, Allison and A.J., both of Tulsa.
