Amos Don Braxton, 72, died at home, 2904 Mills Rd., Greenville, NC 27858 on Monday, April 14, 2014. The funeral service will be conducted today at 5 p.m. at the Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 2581 Black Jack-Grimesland Rd., Greenville, officiated by the Rev. James Ed Gurkins and the Rev. Jerry Shavers. The family will receive friends immediately afterwards in the adjacent Stewart Fellowship Hall and other times at the home Entombment will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.Don was born on September 19, 1941, to Amos Bernice and Dorothy Mae "Dot" Hardee Braxton. He graduated from Ayden High School in 1959 and from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served in the National Guard and was employed with DuPont, the Lutz Schramm Pickle Factory, Farmer's Warehouse and Dimon Tobacco Company from which he retired in 2005. He was co-owner of Country Drapery Fabric Shop and Brooks Mills Rentals.Don loved singing and was a faithful member of the Black Jack P.F.W.B. Church. He was active in the Men's Fellowship, the church choir and served as treasurer for eight years.In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Ava Berniece Braxton Corbett Roll; sister in-law, Eloise Mills Mobley; and brothers in-law, Brooks Mills, Jimmy C. Mobley and D.P. Wallace.Don was married Dec. 16, 1977 to Lois Mills Braxton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Carol Braxton Teal and husband, Bobby; nieces, Lisa Carol Teal and Leigh Ann Teal Edwards and husband, Jamie, all of Ayden; nephews, Gregory C. Mobley and wife, Karen, of Apex, Richard Guy Mobley and companion, Lynette Harris, of Black Jack, and Morris Ken Hines, of Cape Carteret; sisters in-law, Gloria Mills Wallace, of Cape Carteret and Gene Mills, of Greenville; great-nieces, Ashley Rae Mobley of Raleigh and Breana Nicole Fogg of Ayden; great-nephews, Nathaniel C. Mobley of Apex, Devin Matthew Moye, Jared Devonite Moye and Rigoberto Levender Fogg, all of Ayden; and a great-great-niece, Raelee Grace Sorrell, of Raleigh.In lieu of flowers, memorials will be welcomed to Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 2581 Black Jack-Grimesland Rd., Greenville, NC 27858.
