Lena Argin Baber Henning was born in Deweyville, Texas, on August 1, 1926 the daughter of Guy A. and Gertrude Baber, Sr. Lena died at her home on Friday, April 18, 2014. She lived and attended schools in Wiergate, Burkeville and Lufkin, Texas. She was on the schools' tennis and basketball teams. After completing her junior year at Lufkin Texas High School,
Lena moved with her family to the Sulphur Mines in 1943.
She spent her senior year at Sulphur High School. She was elected a cheerleader and cheered for Sulphur's first football state championship team and was instrumental working
toward the school having its first yearbook, which was first published in 1945.
Lena received her BS degree, with honors, from LSU in Design (Interior, Costume and Dress) in 1948. At LSU, she was in the swimming aquacade and a member of Phi Mu Sorority. After graduation, she worked for Sakowitz in Houston, Texas, until her marriage to William L. "Bill" Henning, Sr. in July of 1949.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill, on March 24, 2012. Lena Argin Baber and Bill were married on July 23, 1949. She leaves behind her three sons: William "Dub" L. Henning, Jr. and wife, Susan; John A. Henning, Sr. and wife, Ginny; and Thomas G. Henning and wife, Shirley, and 11 grandchildren.
During her life, Lena enjoyed helping people in need, traveling, and her family. She loved her family and was especially proud of her three boys. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and loved them very much.
As a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, Lena volunteered in
various areas of the church. She served as an officer in the United Methodist Women and as a teacher and superintendent of the vacation bible school. She also served on the Parsonage,
Bereavement, and Catering committees for a number of years and also worked with the
Methodist Youth Fellowship in the 1960's and 1970's. She was awarded a special membership in the United Methodist Women from the Women's Division of the Board of Global Ministries.
Lena and Bill, along with her three sons, were able to assist in getting the Methodist Children's Home of Southwest Louisiana built in southwest Louisiana.
She is a former member of the Sulphur Garden Club and a former officer in the
Brimstone Historical Society. She was instrumental in the organization of the museum and in moving of the old railroad depot to Frasch Park to house the museum. She chaired the commit-tee raising the original funds for the museum.
She is a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and a life member of the Jamestown Society.
In business, she first started off as Bill's secretary when he first opened his law practice in Sulphur, La. Later she served on the Board of Directors and as an officer in Cameron Telephone Company, Elizabeth Telephone Company, and Cameron Communications Corporation. She is the managing partner in Henco Enterprises Partnership.
Pallbearers are William T. Henning, III, John A. Henning, Jr., Travis G. Henning, Daniel L. Henning, Grant T. Henning, and John David Henning. Honorary pall bearers are Hillary E. Henning, Katherine A. Henning, Warren T. Henning, Madeline E. Henning and Meredith J. Henning.

Her service will be on Monday, April 21, 10:30 AM at Henning United Methodist Church. Visitation shall be at Henning United Methodist Church in Sulphur, Louisiana on
Sunday, April 20, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. A graveside service will held in Mimosa Pines Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Henning United Methodist Church or Methodist Children's Home of Southwest Louisiana. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Schlamp and the various caregivers
