Bakersfield Californian, The (CA) - July 26, 2008

Deceased Name: Douglas Wayne Hyatt

Oct. 6, 1926 - July 23, 2008

Douglas Hyatt died peacefully Wednesday in his home in Bakersfield surrounded by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and three-month old great-granddaughter.

He was born in Henderson, Texas to the late Winnie and Roy Hyatt. He met Helen Patton when they were eleven and they were married five years later. They spent the next 65 happy years together. They had three sons, Trent, Kerry, and Dalan and thirteen grandchildren: Millay, Justin, Jessamine, Francesca, Carsten, Abbi, Casie, Jacob, Jaime, Taylor, Simon, Jaqueline, and Xochei, and one great-granddaughter, Bowie. He is also survived by his two brothers, Paul Hyatt of Dallas, Texas and Charles Hyatt of Amarillo, Texas. Wayne heard the call to join the ministry in 1953 and served the Lord as pastor of many different congregations for fifty years.

He served his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps. and was honorably discharged in August 1946 from First Separation Company. As an Assemblies of God pastor, he founded and built churches from Texas to California, including Calvary Full Gospel, now Liberty Christian Center in Bakersfield. Douglas sought to bring the gospel everywhere he went. His devotion as husband, father, grandfather, and pastor left him with innumerable friendships all over the world. He cared deeply for his country and explored it as much as he could with his beloved wife. Enjoying live Southern Gospel music was one of their favorite pastimes on these cross-country trips. He cooked wonderful meals for his loved ones, including the world's greatest mashed potatoes and gravy. He dedicated every Saturday morning to preparing a delicious breakfast for his sons and their families.

Papa's extraordinary love has humbled us and made us strong. This brief summary can't do justice to him or to what he means to us and the many whose lives he has touched.

Services entrusted to Sierra Mortuary and Funeral Home, Lake Isabella. Viewing will be on Monday, July 28th, at 10 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m. Both will be held at the Liberty Christian Center at 8801 S. H Street, Bakersfield. His son Dr. D. Trent Hyatt will officiate. Douglas Wayne Hyatt Oct. 6, 1926 - July 23, 2008
