Greene County Man Dies on the Farm Where He Was Born

Hugh Auld of Near Nineveh, Succumbs to Ailments Incident to Advanced Years at the Age of Eighty-Nine -- Last of Family
Nineveh, Jan. 22 - Hugh Auld, aged 89 years, a lifelong resident of Greene county, one of the oldest and most prominent residents of this section, died at his home two miles north of here today at 3:25 o'clock. His death was due to a general decline incident to his greatly advanced years. He had been in failing health for the past four years.
The death of Mr. Auld occurred on the farm where he was born and had spent his entire life. The farm was purchased by his father about 1815 and had been in the family for nearly 100 years. He had farmed all his life, and was widely known for years as a stock raiser and wool grower and was hightly successful in a financial way. The farm owned by him is one of the largest in the county.
Mr. Auld was the son of Hugh and Sarah Auld. His parents came from County Antrim, Ireland, located near West Alexander and in 1815 purchased the farm near this place. He was the last of a family of six children.
For a long period of years Mr. Auld had been a member of the United Presbyterian church. In politics he was a staunch Democrat of the Jeffersonian type. He never failed to attend an election and at the recent presidential contest cast his ballot for Woodrow Wilson.
Mr. Auld was united in marriage with Miss Mary J. Auld, who died May 29, 1900. Seven children survive: William Auld of Prosperity, Mrs. Mary Wolfe of Nineveh, Thomas S. Auld who lives on the home farm, and Howard, Miss Sarah Ann and Miss Martha J. Auld, all at home.
The funeral arrangements have not been made.
Note: The original newspaper article is in the possession of Catharine Jones Wolfe, wife of John David Wolfe, great grandson of Hugh Auld. Although it states that seven children survive him, only six are listed.
