James Garland Whaley, 93, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in a local hospital.

He was born in the Smoky Mountains on July 8, 1920, to the late Walter and Lenora Messer Whaley. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters.

He was a retired­ electrician and a member of IBEW local 443 in Montgomery, Ala. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Michigan Ave Baptist Church. He loved going to the mountains, fishing, going to church and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Nelle Whaley; daughters: Clara Hudson and her husband, Marvin and Nancy Hudson, all of Cleveland; one son, James W. Whaley and his wife, Evie of Chesapake Ohio; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Victor Hayes and the Rev. Larry Bryant officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Travis, Paul and Kevin Hudson, Jimmy and Trey Campbell, Nabin Shrestha and Dale Click serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Men's Sunday School class.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the North Chapel of the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in the memory of Mr. Whaley to the Michigan Baptist Church Face Lift Fund, 2741 Benton Pike NE Cleveland TN., 37323.
