Jerry Phillip Howell, 42, died yesterday at 12:10 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital of a lung congestion ailment. He had lived at Orchards Nursing Home since coming here in 1969.
A Lewiston native, he returned to the valley in 1969 from Portland, where he had been employed in a fruit production business. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bertrand A. Howell, he was born April 15, 1928. He lived at Lewiston until 1946, when he moved to Alaska for a four-year stay.
He returned here for six years, then moved to Grangeville for four years. In 1960, he moved to Alaska again, but two years later moved to Portland where he lived for seven years before returning to Lewiston.
He married Betty Smith at Lewiston in 1953. They subsequently were divorced.
In addition to his parents at Lewiston, survivors include a son, Randy Howell, Lewiston; and three sisters, Mrs. William (Monica) Smith, Lewiston, Nrs. Jerome (Jeanette) Pickard, Seattle, and Mrs. Virgil (Karla) Pogue, Castle Rock, Wash.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be John Nymeyer of Jehovah's Witnesses. Burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery.
