Mrs. Eliza R. Sacket deValin, 63, one of Cape Vincent's most prominent residents, died at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, last Wednesday. Death was caused by a ruptured appendix. Mrs. deValin was born April 12, 1872, in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late General Delos Bennett Sacket and Frances Williams Sacket. General Sacket was the son of Dr. Gideon Shepard Sacket, pioneer of Cape Vincent. Mrs. deValin passed the early part of her life in Washington, D. C. The family came to Cape Vincent during the summers. General Sacket was born in Cape Vincent and members of the family have always resided in this village. Mrs. deValin's two brothers, Cornelius T. Sacket and Francis W. Sacket, residents of this village, both died here. In August, 1896, Mrs. deValin was married to Dr. Charles M. deValin of the United States Navy. They were married at Cape Vincent. Mrs. deValin also is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haigh, of New York; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Francis Williams Sacket, of Cape Vincent, and two cousins. Mrs. deValin was a member of St. John's Episcopal church of this village, and also one of the first and most prominent members of the Cape Vincent Improvement League. During the World war she was chairman of the Cape Vincent branch of the Jefferson county chapter of the Red Cross. Interment was made in the family plot in the Episcopal cemetery, at the rear of St. John's church
