NOTE: His tombstone birth date is 1845. However, the 1850 census, Surry County, NC, household 214 has him age 7 making birth about 1843. In addition, his sister, Mary Ann was born on May 17, 1845 as confirmed on her death certificate and tombstone. The same 1850 census has her age 5 making birth about 1845. Thus, his tombstone birth date is believed to be in error.

William Turner LEWIS' parents were Argelon Green (Archie) LEWIS (Nov 20 1808 - Aug 13 1868) and Elizabeth (Betsy) WHEELER (May 10 1808 - Nov 20 1881).

Turner Lewis resided between 1846 and 1866 with his parents about 10 miles out of Mount Airy, Surry County, NC. He served in the military between 1863 and 1865 as a Confederate Soldier, 21st Regiment, North Carolina Infantry, Co. C..

W. T. Lewis' pension app is on line in the GA archives virtual vault. He confirms 1845 Patrick County, VA as place of birth. He says he enlisted in Mt. Airy, NC in 1861 and served about 4 years with Company C of the 21st NC Volunteers. But he says he was a prisoner of War at Point Lookout, MD prison. Logan Whitlock of Baker county was in the same unit and completed his witness form.

He was an owner of a shoe and tobacco house in 1866 in Dawson, Terrell County, GA. He resided between 1866 and 1880 in Terrell County, GA. He was elected President of the Board of Councilmen on November 18, 1869 in Dawson. He was a Grocery Keeper (Grocer) in 1870 in Dawson. He won a prize for the best bull at the first annual Fair of Terrell Industrial Association. on November 23, 1871. He was appointed Committeeman for the Terrell County Democratic Party representing the 3rd district. on August 29, 1872. He was a Farmer in 1880 in Terrell County. He was a Terrell County Camp - United Confederate Veterans in 1893. He was also a Deputy Sheriff and was elected Mayor of Dawson, GA.

He married Frances Cora (Fannie) BELL (daughter of Arthur BELL and Eliza (Lassiter) BELL) on January 23, 1870 in Terrell County, GA. Fannie was born abt 1846 in Burke County, GA.

Fannie resided with her husband between January 23, 1870 and 1880 in Terrell County and was keeping house. They resided on Lee Street, between 1880 and 1883 in Dawson. Fannie died on April 16, 1883 in Dawson from pneumonia. She was buried in the Chickasawhatchee Methodist Church Cemetery, 7 miles below Dawson, GA.

She previously resided and was keeping house in 1880 in Palmyra, Lee County, GA. After Turner Lewis' death in 1899 she moved to South Carolina where she was later buried.
