John Kemp was born in Fredericksburgh Tp., Addington County, Ontario. He was the son of Joseph Kemp & Catherine Bovee from the Schenectady, New York area. John Kemp was the son of a United Empire Loyalist. Joseph Kemp fought for the British during the American Revolution in the King's Rangers. He was the eldest son of John Kemp Sr., UEL, and Anna Van Vorst, & was the first Kemp of this family to be born in Ontario.
