HAYNER, PHILLIP AVERY

Age 92, of Manchester, Michigan went to be with the Lord April 11, 2014. He was born March 17, 1922 to Vena and Harry Hayner in Ypsilanti. Phillip graduated from Jackson High School. He married Jerrie Sue Harris in 1944 (deceased 1990) and Alberta Hamilton in 1991 (deceased 2008). Phillip was a U. S. Navy signalman during WWII and landed on Utah Beach, Normandy, June 6, 1944 with the Second Beach Battalion. After Normandy, he returned to Jackson, married his sweetheart Jerrie Sue Harris, then served in the Pacific theater until the end of the war. Phillip continued his education at Baptist Bible Seminary in New York state. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir director, and soloist in the churches he attended. Phillip is survived by three children: Linda K. Hayner, Phillip A. Hayner II, and Penelope Hayner Vawter; two stepsons: John Hamilton and Robert Hamilton; five grandchildren: Christy Rae Hayner, Phillip A. Hayner III, Ellanor Sue Vawter, Debra Vawter Clymer, and Sara Vawter Griffith; and two great grandchildren: Bryce Clymer and Mila Hayner. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm, Gary Vawter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until service time.
