"My parents, Thomas Jeffries and Mary Ann Alexander were united in marriage in (1817); My Father settled at Springfield, Washington County, Kentucky; and shortly afterwards moved to Hardin County, farmed, kept a wagon yard, and Stage Stand, and Wagon making Shop. There were nine children; viz., James M., Juliza, Greenberry B., Letitia, Pamelia, Jesse A., Thomas J., William H., and George W., of which I am all the surviving one. The family, parents, nine children, moved with covered wagons to the Platt Purchase, Andrew County, Missouri, in 1844."
“In 1821, Joshaway Alexander, my mother’s oldest Brother came with his wife from Mercer County Kentucky (now Boil County, with Danville for County Seat) to Bethlehem neighborhood, Boone County; With Thomas Rowland, who married my Mother’s Sister "Betsy"; Settled on Perche, Joining Farms. Uncle Joshua had a Son, George, who married Mary M. Barry of Clark, Randolph County. George was under General Price at the battle of Pea Ridge, wounded, died, leaving a daughter, Mrs. Troxell, of Columbia, Thomas Rowland raised a large family of boys, only one living Lafayette (Shade) living. Judge, J. T. Rowland of Columbia is Grandson. William Alexander of Howard County was mother’s youngest brother. His son, Robert (Bob) who married Miss Mollie Elgin, and left a daughter, Mrs. Gussie Smith, now living in Columbia. There was one Baptist preacher on my Father’s side, Uncle Elija Jeffries. Two Brothers on my mother’s side, Reuben and Jesse. Only one, Reuben, came to Missouri and settled near Hilldale, in an early day.”
