"Richard "Dick" Arnold, age 66, passed away unexpectedly at Salem Hospital early Tuesday morning. Richard had been battling Parkinson's disease for nearly 20 years with other health complications leading to his passing. Richard was born in Oregon City, Oregon to George E. and Cecila Ann (Oberson) Arnold. He was one of six siblings. He attended Oregon City High School, where he played football and basketball and graduated in 1966. He then went on to attend the Oregon College of Education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (1971). He continued his education with a Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (1977).Richard began and ended his teaching career at Central High School in Independence, Oregon. He taught social studies there for 30 years. He also taught driver's education and coached tennis and basketball. Paralleling his career as an educator, Richard coached many youth sports teams including Little League baseball and Parks & Recreation basketball. Richard was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother, teacher and coach. He will be missed by everyone who knew him."

We will be celebrating Richard's life at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service on Saturday February 1st at 1pm.
