Florence Alice Rose was a direct descendant of John and Betty More's Jonas line. She was the second of five children born to Elbert Rose and Grace More Rose. Florence was raised at Pine Hill, New York where her father was the owner and operator of a farm. Her mother died when she was 12-years of age and her maternal grandmother, Alice Estelle Clayton More, moved into the home to care for Florence and the younger siblings. Florence's father had a difficult time grieving the loss of his wife and sold the farm. Florence graduated from Roxbury High School at Roxbury, New York in 1918 and graduated from Oneonta Normal School at Oneonta, New York in 1920. She taught children in Oneonta schools; fourth grade at Hudson from 1920 to 1922 was a teaching principal at East End from 1922 to 1927. Florence married to John Thomas Lawler, Jr. on 15 July 1925 at Saint Mary's Church in Oneonta. They made their home at this place where her husband was a high school instructor. Florence took a break from teaching as she raised four sons. During this break in her career, she attended summer classes at Syracuse University at Oneonta and New York State College for Teachers at Albany, New York. In 1948, she returned to teaching at Center Street School at Oneonta and was a member of this faculty until her death. She became ill just weeks after her son James died and succumbed on 30 June 1961 at Fox Memorial Hospital at Oneonta. Florence was a member of Saint Mary's Church and their Rosary Society and Women's Club. She was also active in Daughters of the American Revolution and Oneonta Teachers Association. Her son, Reverand Robert Lawler, of Ogdensburg, officiated the Solemn High Requiem Mass at Saint Mary's Church. Florence and John were the parents of four sons; John More Lawler, James Clayton Lawler, Robert Leroy Lawler, and Richard Thomas Lawler.
