HOWLAND DAVIS, only son of the late William T. and Abby Burr (Hedge) Davis, was born in Plymouth, Mass. July 28, 1855, and began his education in the local district schools. He later attended the high school, and also a business college in Boston, after which he became a clerk with the banking and brokerage firm of Blake Brothers & Co., of New York and Boston, with which firm he has since been associated. After ten years of faithful service he acquired an interest in the business, and has been a member of the firm for a number of years. His office is in Exchange Place, New York. Mr. Davis has however maintained his interest in his old home town, and he and his family spend the summer seasons at Long Pond, in Plymouth, where he has a beautiful home. Mr. Davis is a prominent member and a
trustee of the Pilgrim Society of Plymouth. He is also a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, of which he was elected governor general in 1909; and is also a member of the New England Society in the City of New York, which was founded in 1805, and of which he was elected president in 1910. His achievements have been worthy of the family to which he belongs,
and although he has devoted practically of of his time to his business interests, departing somewhat from the traditions of his forefathers, his success has been so noteworthy as to reflect honor on the name.
On June 3, 1885, Mr. Davis was united in marriage to Anna Shippen, of New Jersey, and to this union have been born the following children:
1) Howland Shippen
2) Hester L.
3) Ruth G.

5) William Shippen
6) Sybil W.
7) Wendell
