Lifelong county resident, Mrs. Bessie Rollefson, 82, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at her home in Forest City. Bessie B. Rollefson, the daughter of Gilbert and Mary Kittelson Gudmonson, was born Dec. 21, 1898, in Mt. Valley township. She was baptized and confirmed at
Winnebago Lutheran church and attended Center school in Mt. Valley township.
March 26, 1919, she married Henry Rollefson at Winnebago Lutheran church. They were parents of two sons, Harvey and Roger Rollefson of Forest City and two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Sharon) Hansen of Forest City and Mrs. John (Margaret) Schmitz of Mason City.
The Rollefsons farmed in Mt. Valley township until 1940, when they entered the gasoline business north of Forest City. In 1947, they moved their business, the Phillips 66 station, to its present location at the junction of Highways 69 and 9.
Mr. Rollefson died March 12, 1953, Mrs. Rollefson continued to live in her home next to the gas station, while her sons operated the station. In 1979, Mrs. Rollefson sold the station.
Survivors include her four children; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Gudmonson of Fertile, Merle Gudmonson of Albert Lea , Minn., and Thomas Gudmonson of Forest City; and a sister, Minnie Peterson of Forest City.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rollefson were held Saturday morning at Winnebago Lutheran church in rural Lake Mills. The Rev. Henry G. Stolz officiated. Brian Rauk was the soloist and Mrs. Edward Knudtson, the organist. Casket bearers were Glenn Gudmonson, Archie Monson, Wallace Lovick, Arlyn Rauk, Marlyn Rollefson and Raymond Rollefson. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home handling the arrangements.
