Obituary from The Times-News (Twin Falls, ID) - Tuesday, April 5, 1966:
James Edward (Ed) Gifford, Jerome, was born July 4, 1912 in Carey, Idaho, and lived for a time in Woodville and Rupert. He came to Jerome in 1926 with his parents.
He farmed for several years and married Mary Alice Thorne on July 6, 1935 in Jerome. Their marriage was solemnized January 24, 1945 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Mr. Gifford had worked as a maintenance man for the State Highway Department for the past 15 years. He was a member of the LDS First Ward and had served as general secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood and as president of the Elder's Quorum. He was a past superintendent of the UMMIA and had been secretary of the Seventies Quorum.
Mr. Gifford was active in Scouting and youth work and had served on a stake mission.
Survivors include his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Alice Stockton, Orlando, Florida; five sons: James Lee Gifford, Des Moines, Iowa; Dee DeLaine Gifford, Pocatello; Jessie Gifford and George Edwin Gifford, both Jerome; and Donald Ray Gofford, attending Ricks College, Rexburg; three brothers, Levi Gifford, Kenneth Gifford, and Roy Gifford, all Jerome; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Lawrence, Jerome, and Mrs. Lucile Bales, Aumsville, Oregon; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jerome LDS First Ward chapel by Bishop Grant B. Humphries. Concluding rites will be held in Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls.
