Willard Slagle was the 6th (middle)child of elven children born to Rhoda (Boggs) and Lewis "Frank" Slagle. After enlisting in the US Marine Corp, during WW I on Apr. 28, 1918 and serving with the American Expeditionary Force in France from Nov. 10, 1918 to July 29, 1919, he returned to his parents farm at discharge on Aug. 11, 1919. His father died the following year in 1920. Willard operated his mother's farm for most of his adult life. Mr. Slagle was 40 years of age when he married 26 year old Freda Wood, daughter of Vernon and Elizabeth (Mosier)Wood of Perry Twp., Gallia, Ohio. They had no children. With the closing of the Bethel Methodist Church in the 1930's, a church his grandmother and father helped to establish, Willard became a member and leader in the Salem Baptist church where he was interred in the church cemetery at death on Nov. 10, 1958.------ Note: The 11th child (not listed below) was Denver Slagle b. Apr. 28, 1894 and died Nov. 23, 1977 in Sarasota FL according to SS death records. He was married to Annie E. (Wagner) Slagle, daughter of "Fletch" Wagner.
