Burger, Henry "Dick"
Henry R. "Dick" Burger, age 66, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life peacefully with his family and friends by his side on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc after a courageous battle with cancer for the last six months.
Dick was born on July 19, 1947 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Henry E. and Mary Elaine Egan Burger. Dick attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Wilson Junior High School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1966. He then continued his education at the Wentworth Military Academy in Missouri, Mount St. Paul College in Waukesha, Wisconsin and the Dominican College in Racine, Wisconsin where he received his degree in Social Studies graduating in 1971. While in college Dick met Kathleen Anderson who he married November 18, 1972 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waukegan, Illinois. Except for his years in college Dick was a lifelong Manitowoc resident. He returned from college and worked at the family business, Burger Boat Company, from 1971 until 1988. In 1990 he started 4 Seasons Lawn Care on North 8th Street in Manitowoc until he retired in 1990 at age 60. Dick was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, member of the board of directors of Woodland Dunes since its infancy with continued support until the present time. Dick had an excellent and unique sense of humor which could make people laugh. With his generosity and true love of life he had the ability to easily connect with other people. He enjoyed spending time at Sturgeon Bay at the cottage out on the pontoon boat fishing, swimming, fishing and watching fireworks. Dick was active with gardening, growing and harvesting veggies to share with family and friends. Dick and Kathy enjoyed their Florida trips, camping and cooking on the grill and enjoying the time spent with family and friends outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Kathy; one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Chris Hyer, Petersburg, Alaska; two grandchildren: Calder and Cora Hyer; one sister and brother-in-law: Barbara "Barbie" and David Wilda, Appleton, WI; niece: Kelly Wilda; nephew: Ty (Laura) Wilda; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Sara Jane "Sally" Seitz.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation lead by Deacon Bob Beehner. The visitation will continue on Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
