Tommie Scogin Murray (Crowville, La.)

Born in Gilliam, La. on January 18, 1910 to James Edward and Sarah Frances French.

Passed away at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, La. Saturday, August 27, 2005.

In 1929, Tommie and W.D. (Red) Scogin were married in Bossier City, La. They had three children, Arlis, Patsy, and Diane.

Mrs. Murray is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband (Red), her son, Arlis David Scogin and daughter-in-law, Mary D'anna Scogin.

She is survived by her husband Orrin Murray and stepson, Tom Murray, her daughters and sons-in-law Patsy and Wendell Holloway and Diane and Charles Crane, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Murray was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was caring, generous, fun loving, and determined. She was never idle.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crowville, La., was active in the Ladies Sunday School Class, and participated in several mission trips. She was a member of the Eastern Star chapter in Crowville. In Murray she found the perfect companion. They spent hours quilting and cross-stitching. They happily gave away the fruits of their labor. I'm sure the waitress who "never let their coffee get cold" was stunned when her "tip" was one of those quilts. Our Mom never outgrew her passion for learning and was an avid crossword puzzle fan. She completed a cosmetology course, was trained as a nurses' aide and owned a restaurant. Her grandchildren remember those wonderful hamburgers and we all remember her prize-winning peach cobbler.

Our mother, grandmother, wife, and friend will be missed, but our memories are rich.

Services for Mrs. Murray will be at the First Baptist Church of Crowville at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 30, 2005 with Rev. Carl Gulde, Rev. Joe Senn, and Rev. Francis Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Crowville Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Mulhearn Funeral Home from 5:00 till 8:00 PM Monday and from 9:00 AM till service time Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to The First Baptist Church of Crowville, The Alzheimers Association, or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Murray's husband and her children are grateful for the outstanding care and concern of the staff at Golden Doors.
