Lorenzo Dow Williams was the son of Jerusha Stanley Smith and Benajah Williams. Lorenzo married Olivia Tryphena Warren in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1837. He was a professor of natural sciences at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania from 1845-1862. He also served briefly as the College president.
Lorenzo was a Methodist and a chaplain for the 111th Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War. He and Olivia had four children: Louisa, Octavius, Albert, and Mary Adelle. He died in 1878 at the age of 65.
