Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Regi Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Batten was born April 17, 1929, in Guymon, Okla., to Cairo and Amos Bartels. She married William "Bill" Earl Batten on Dec. 29, 1950, in Guymon. Mr. Batten passed away on May 1, 2009. She was a member of First Christian Church.
She was a graduate of Guymon High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She did graduate work at Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University, receiving an All-Levels Teaching Certificate.
She worked for lawyers and accounting firms for 15 years and taught school for 22 years in the Amarillo Independent School District system.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Fredrickson.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Goodin and husband Paul and Barbara Gabel and husband Kevin, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Gwen Merrill and husband Brandon, Kim Bush and husband Jack, Elise Taylor and husband Brad and Alison Jacoby and husband Keith; her great-grandchildren, Madison Merrill, Braden and Ethan Bush, Callan Taylor and Samantha Jacoby; a sister, Mary Ann Williamson and husband George; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, TX 79109.
