Enlisted at Levant, ME Nov 20, 1861 at age 21 as a private into 1st Maine Light Artillery 3rd Battery. He was discharged for disability May 13, 1862. He re-enlisted Jan 14, 1864 into Co K 1st DC Cavalry. Transferred Feb 16, 1864 into Co K 1st Maine Cavalry. Taken prisoner Set 16, 1864 at Sycamore Church, VA. He died of disease at Salisbury Prison.
