OBITUARY: Ruth A. Fish – under column Norman Station Statistics

Ruth A. Fish died August 18, 1898. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Liberty church. She was fifty-two years old and had been a member of the Christian church for over thirty years. She requested that her funeral be preached by Rev. Aymes before she was laid in the cemetery. The text which she had chosen for the minister was, "Them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him" The hymns she admired and preferred sung at the services were as follows: "My Latest Sun is Sinking Fast," "We're Going Home," "Remember Me." She also requested that we, the children of our deceased mother, should write a few lines to the Smithville News to bring back remembrance to friends and relatives whom she had visited and associated with many years ago; she said she loved her old friends in Smithville, although her voice and foot steps shall be heard no more at that place. We feel that we have lost a kind and loving mother and our father a loving wife. We also extend our thanks to the many friends and relatives in the vicinity in which she lived for their kindness and assistance during her illness, and all that we can say or do is to hope that we may meet her in that upper and better world, where sorrow, sickness, pain and death are unknown.
