Kassie Sue Grow, born Feb. 3, 1974, to James and Doris Grow at Lewiston, Idaho, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at her home at the age of 32.

Kassie was born with a series of health problems including Down syndrome, and heart defects. Because of these problems, doctors predicted that she would not live more than two years. They did not know Kassie's indomitable spirit. She went through multiple open-heart surgeries in her life and had part of her esophagus removed. She died on the operating table twice and fought her way back to live another 23 years. Although she was 32 years of age, she appeared to be about 12.

Kassie softened the hearts of those around her, particularly her family. She was an example of endurance, courage, and love.

She was appreciative of the small things in life. She was truly an angel in our midst. She loved ribbons, bows, strings, Barbie dolls, musical keyboards, music, Disney movies, Disneyland, ice cream, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. She lived on these things and little else.

Her favorite song, which her family sang to her nightly, was "Jingle Bells."

Although Kassie could speak a few words, her thoughts and demeanor clearly expressed her love for life and for her family. She laughed and smiled most of the time. Her laughter and smile were contagious and will be missed.

Kassie attended school in the Lewiston School District and graduated from high school in 1995 to a standing ovation. The kindness of those who attended school with her brought tears to the eyes of her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, James W. Grow Sr., who passed away in 1995.

She is survived by her mother, Doris M. Grow, two brothers, James W. Grow Jr. and his wife Deborah, and Micheal Grow and his wife Shannon, as well as two sisters, Patricia McNish and her husband Paul, and Julie Dague and her husband Robert. She is also survived by six nieces and seven nephews.

Family members grieve the loss of little Kassie but are eternally grateful for the time she was allowed to dwell in their presence in this life. We rest assured that the disabilities Kassie endured in this life will give way to a resurrection that will find her in the perfect form beside our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral services shall be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, 1123 16th Ave., Clarkston, Wash.
