Born in Kingstree, SC, he was the son of the late William and Hazel Mae Loryea Boyd.
Mr. Boyd served in the US Coast Guard and was a World War II veteran, having participated in the liberation of the Philippines and Iwo Jima. Before moving to Hendersonville in 1997, Mr. Boyd had resided on James Island, SC. He retired from the Civil Service and was a member of the James Island 396 Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rosemary H. Boyd of Hendersonville; son, William D. Boyd, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Hendersonville; daughter, Connie Harkins and husband, Tim, of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Amy and Katie; brother, Louis H. Boyd of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews; and his devoted dog, Buster.
A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Fruitland United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jerry Warren and Walt Christian officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at 2 PM Monday, April 7, 2014 at Carolina Memorial Park in Charleston, SC.
