'Bub' as he was known, was born 01 July 1941 in Cottonport, Louisiana to George Cannon Sr. and Mary Theresa Walton Adkins. He passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his home in Central. He was the grandson of Thomas Morgan and Lucretia Foret Adkins and Fred Arthur and Lydia Clarke Walton. He attended Louisiana State University, served his country in the US Army in Germany from 1964 to 1969 and then followed his dad's footsteps becoming a pipefitter working out of Local Union 198.
When Bub retired in 2004 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and battled this disease all of his retirement years. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing. He trained his faithful companions, his beagles, on his property in Central. Bub was a 'jack of all trades'. There was nothing he could not do and did not do for his family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, W.E. 'Bill' Adkins and wife, Janelle; four sisters, Carol Williams and husband, Charles, Barbara Adkins, Rose Mary Smith and Bonita Louis and husband, David; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 12 pm until funeral services at 2pm. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be David Louis, Casey Louis, Corey Louis, Fred Walton, Perry Walton, and Steven Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Adkins and Charles Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, St Joseph Hospice or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Louisiana.
The family would like to Thank his at home care givers, who the family considers angels and St. Joseph Hospice for your care and compassion.
