Carl Thomson, 93, of Naples, FL, passed away March 26, 2014 from natural causes after a long and happy life with his wife and children at his side.

Carl, a gentle and unassuming man, was born on a farm in Grayslake, IL in 1921 and graduated from Libertyville High School in 1939.

His lifetime spanned from horse drawn farm implements on the Thomson farm to flying jet aircraft. Carl was married to Lorraine Drzymala Thomson on October 16, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Round Lake, IL and was blessed with over 65 years of a remarkable marriage of exceptional love.

During his long life Carl served his country with honor during WWII as a Naval Aviator Flight Instructor, serving last at NAS Glenview Illinois in the early1960's as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Naval Reserves.

Carl was a successful businessman developing the waste disposal company Thomson Disposal Service in business over thirty years. Fortunate to have a God-given talent to play a musical instrument Carl played the flute in high school and then enlisted in 1941 as a U.S. Navy sailor serving as a member of the Navy Band in Great Lakes Naval Station. He was then selected for flight training. He continued his flute playing throughout his later years performing in the Naples and Rhinelander City Bands.

Carl was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish in Round Lake, Nativity of Our Lord in Rhinelander, WI and lastly St. Finbarr Parish in Naples. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Carl will be remembered as a man of exceptional kindness, caring, and service to all that had that made his acquaintance.

He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; his children, Timothy (Denise) of Port Orchard, WA; Pamela Von Oepen (Robert) of Spring Grove, IL; Bonnie Carter (Tom) of Ingleside, IL; Gina Giannola (Anthony) of Lake Zurich, IL; and Forrest, also of Ingleside; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends from Carl and Lorraine's homes in Rhinelander and Naples.

A funeral mass is will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 31st at St. Finbarr Catholic Church, 13520 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34114.
Final committal will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, the Fort Hill, in Round Lake, IL.
