Mr. Joseph Cater Brinson, age 65, a longtime resident of Griffin, went to be with his partner, Bobby Thigpen on Monday, November 25, 2013.

Mr. Brinson was born in Wrightsville on March 12, 1948 and grew up in Macon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Sara Jane Brinson; his life partner, Bobby Thigpen. He was a graduate of Mercer University Fine Arts Department and received his Masters from West Georgia. Upon graduating, he moved to Griffin where he taught in the Spalding County School System for nearly 30 years. Mr. Brinson loved the theater and was an actor and director with the Footlight Players.

Survivors include his sister, Diane Owens and husband, Jim, brother, Ralph Brinson Jr. and wife, Betty, sister, Betty Jane Wells and husband, Alvin; nieces, Tracy, Christy, Sara; nephew, Ken.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Griffin. Dr. Bill Hardee officiated. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 301 Kelly Dr., Suite 3, Peachtree City, GA 30269 in memory of Mr. Brinson.

***He was also survived by his partners family whom loved him like family, parents Lynette and Gordon Thigpen of Statesboro, ga. sister and brother-nlaws Reta and Ricky Ivey of Sylvania, Ga. Tony and Sherry Thigpen of Social Circle, Ga. Nephew and neice-n-law Chad and Bonnie Ivey and children, Michael, Caleb, Rachel, and Rebekah all of Fort White, Fl.
