Obituary (Madison (MO) Times, Jan. 9, 1913)- Thomas Harrison Gaines died at his home north of Madison, Thursday, after an illness of some weeks duration. Mr. Gaines was 76 years old. He was married to Elizabeth Gaines, June 30, 1859, and to this union eight children were born. Five of them are living as follows: Tom, of Montana; Emmet, Will and Mrs. John L. Farrell, of this vicinity, and Mrs. Mose Roberson, of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Mrs. Gaines died May 28, 1877 and Mr. Gaines later married Miss Wisena Smith. He united with the Hickory Grove Baptist church in early life and had lived a faithful and consistent life. He was an upright citizen and had many friends who deeply deplore his death, and sympathize sincerely with the bereaved relatives. Funeral services were conducted at Ash, Friday afternoon by Rev. R. A. Jones, after which burial was made in the cemetery there.
