Junith Jill Callihan

Jill Callihan Austin, R.N., passed away December 16, 2012.
Junith Jill (Callihan) Austin, R.N., 77, precious Mother and loving wife of 58 years, passed peacefully asleep in her home on December 16, 2012. Although her physical heart failed, her spiritual heart lives on with the myriad of people who knew and loved her. All were fortunate to have known her. She was truly a shining light in the lives of her family, friends, and acquaintances. Jill was born on January 13, 1935 in Caruthersville, Missouri She is survived by her husband Dr. Larry M. Austin, Professor Emeritus, TTU, and Lt. Colonel, Ret., United States Air Force; by her daughter, Dr. Katherine Austin Beltz of Lubbock and TTU; and by her half-brother, Dr. James Leslie of Roseburg, Oregon. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Uwe Beltz, and his two sons Jonathan and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerard and Dorothy Callihan, and by her mother, Dolly. In addition to her superb service as a pediatric nurse, Jill was the epitome of the career military officer's wife, and later as the Second Lady of the College of Business Administration at Texas Tech. In retirement, she remained active as a rug hooker, decorator, and bridge player, and she enjoyed a wide network of friends. Loving others was her passion, and she touched every life she encountered. There will be a small, but joyous celebration of her remarkable life on her 78th birthday.
