Robert E. Finan, 86, a well-known Wilmot Township resident, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

Bob was born July 5, 1927, on the family farm in Wilmot Township, the son of the late James Xavier Finan and Blanche O'Neil Finan.

He graduated from the Dushore High School, a member of the Class of 1945. After high school, Bob entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He re-enlisted and was discharged in 1950. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Denver, Colo., where he met his wife, the former Betty Lee Roop. They had two of their children, James and JoEllen, while in the Army and returned home in 1950 to the family farm. Betty Lee predeceased him on May 18, 1998.

Bob began working at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. of Mildred and was there for 15 years. He then worked for Dolly Madison Ice Cream Factory in Dushore for three years until he took a job with PennDOT, from which he retired after 25 years of service. He also took over the family monument business, Finan Monuments, which he operated for many years with the help of his sons, while working full time.

Bob was a member of St. Basil's Church, Dushore, and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Loyalsock Post No. 996 American Legion, Dushore.

Surviving are: four sons, James L. Finan of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas R. (Rachelle) Finan of New Albany, Pa., Kenneth F. (Faith) Finan of Mehoopany, Pa., and Robert J. (Tina) Finan of New Albany; two daughters, Mary (William) Flottemesch of Beach Lake, Pa., and Anne (David) Fitzgerald of Dushore; two sisters, Dorothy Stoddard of Sugar Run, Pa., and Theresa (Brian) Tourscher of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Lahman Stoddard of Sugar Run; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, "Daisy."

He was predeceased by: a daughter, JoEllen Lamphere, on March 17, 1984; a grandson, Brandon Donald Finan, on June 20, 2012; a granddaughter, Melissa Noel Wood, on March 4, 2005; a sister, Darlene Rose Stoddard, on Aug. 11, 1984; a brother-in-law, Martin J. Stoddard, on July 17, 1988; a step-father, Paul Edward Adams, on Dec. 23, 1996; and a special friend, Evelyn Ruth Vanderpool Daugherty, on Jan. 15, 2014.

A Transferal Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding.

Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Cummiskey, Pa.

Friends may call on Tuesday, April 1 at the funeral home from 3-7 p.m.

Graveside military services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post No. 996 American Legion, Dushore. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

The family will provide the flowers and requests that memorial contributions be sent to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848 or the American Cancer Society, Bradford County Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
