Gcrrit Boerma, 96, of Sioux Center
died Wednesday, January 8, 1992, at
the Nursing Wing of the Sioux Center
Community Hospital.
Services were Saturday, January
11, 1992 at the Trinity Lutheran
Church of Hawarden with the Rev.
Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in
Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.
Mr. Boerma was born May 2, 1895,
in Holland, the son of Gerrit J. and Alice
(Scholten) Boerma. He came to
America and to the Chicago area with
his family as a young man. The family
moved and began farming near Hebron,
IN. After serving in the U.S.
Army during World War I, he moved
to. Hudson, SD, where he farmed and
sold Ford automobiles. On February
14, 1934, he married Esther Klumb at
Hawarden. The couple moved to rural
Sioux Center in 1939 and farmed for
many years. She died January 31,
1983. He lived with his son and daughter-
in-law until September 7, 1989,
when he moved to the Sioux Center
Nursing Wing.
Mr. Boerma was the last charter
member of the Bergstrom-Bodeen
Post, American Legion at Hudson. He
was a baptized and confirmed member
of the Trinity Lutheran Church at
Hawarden.
Survivors include a son and his
wife, Dale and Joyce Boerma of Maurice;
a sister and her husband, Clara
and Neal Schouten of Hawarden; two
sisters-in-law, Helen and her husband,
Mike Reit of Beresford, SD, and Suzie
Boerma of Ogilive, MN; and nieces
and nephews.
