Forest D. Alt, 94, of Petersburg, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, in Grant Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Grant County, and was a son of the late Isaac Sherman Alt and Charity Catherine (Alt) Alt.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice (Alt) Kirk and Joy (Alt) Alt; and one brother, Sherman Alt. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Forest was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Ford Motor Co. after 50 years as parts manager. He was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78. He was a member of the Petersburg Lodge IOOF 408.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Edith "Polly" (Cox) Alt; two daughters, Sharon (Tim) Cooper of Elkins and Brenda (Rick) Feaster of Petersburg; one son, Terry "Buddy" Alt of Petersburg; six grandchildren, William (Christina) Umbright of Morgantown, Thomas (April) Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, Beverly (Brian) Romero of Elkins, Beth (Tommy) Scott of Oakland, Md., Jeff (Alyssa) Feaster of Weirton and Morgan (John) Heavner of Lahmansville; and 14 great-grandchildren, Codie and Samatha Rohrbaugh, Julia Feaster, Josh and Macie Romero, Tommie, Sidney and Sunni Scott, Tyler and Katie Umbright, Chasity Alt, Blake, Hunter and Addison Heavner.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral service will be Thursday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. William Brown, the Rev. Richard Longbon and Bishop Aaron Davidson officiating. Burial will be in Lahmansville Cemetery with military honors by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454.
