143143 Flying Officer Peter Groucutt Davies was the only son born to Florence Minnie Davies (formerly Groucutt) and Robert Henry Davies. Peter was born in Prestatyn. Peter (aged 14) recieved part of his education at Liverpool College from Spring 1934 and leaving in 1936. He undertook a premium apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce, Derby starting with the company in September 1936 aged 16. Peter joined the RAF at the outbreak of war and had completed a full tour of operations before joining 83 Squadron (Pathfinders), Wyton. Peter was a very experienced rear gunner aboard Lancaster JA-967 'THE SAINT' on the night of 28/29th January 1944. Officially his aircraft was believed to have been involved in a mid-air collision with Lancaster HK-537 from 463 Squadron Royal Australian Airforce flying from Waddington. Peter's aircraft crashed near the small village of Broballe on the island of Als, Denmark. His body was buried on the 2nd February 1944 in Aabenraa Cemetery, Denmark.
R.I.P Peter, We will remember.
The two crews are remembered annually at the crash site on 29th January by the faithful Danes.
