Christina Mae Byrd, 75, of Muscatine, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services for Christina will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Riverview Center. Visitation for Christina will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Christina's name. Christina Mae Shoemaker was born on May 20, 1938 in New Boston, IL, the daughter of Freeman and Helen (Howard) Shoemaker. On July 20, 1957 she was united in marriage to Clifford Byrd, Sr. in Aledo, IL. She graduated from Muscatine Community College and was a member of the Honors Society there. She retired as the building and grounds manager for MCC. Christina was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, especially to Disney World which she visited 14 times, gardening, watching birds and always enjoyed learning something new. More than anything, Christina loved her family and was willing to learn and do anything needed to care for them. She was very loyal and protective towards those she loved and made an impression on everyone who knew her.

Christina will be deeply missed by her children, Wade Byrd and wife, Terry, Kathleen Moore and husband, Rocky, Mark Byrd, Sr. and wife, Carla and Christopher Byrd, all of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Barbara Gaylor of New Boston, Virginia Briles of Keithsburg, Vickie Kapsalis of Moline, Jeri Lynn Shoemaker of Keithsburg, Freeman Shoemaker and wife, Arlene of Oquawka, IL, Rick Shoemaker and wife, Donna of Muscatine and Tim Shoemaker and wife, Becky of Keithsburg.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Helen Shoemaker; her husband, Clifford in 1987; her son, Clifford Byrd, Jr. in 1992; and two brothers, Ben and Bill shoemaker.
