James T. Phillips, 69, Chilhowee, Mo., died June 6, 1987, at Research Medical Center. He was born near Ewing, Mo., and lived in Avalon, Calif., before he moved to Chilhowee in 1958. Mr. Phillips owned the Heet Gas Co. in Chilhowee for 29 years. He was past president director and legislative committee chairman for the Missouri LP Gas Association. He served on the Chilhowee R-4 Board of Education and the Chilhowee City Council. He was a former commercial fisherman and building contractor on Catalina Island. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Warrensburg American Legion Post. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Phillips of the home; two sons, Edwin Phillips, Kansas City, and Robert Phillips, Chilhowee; two sisters, Hazel Denning, Tulare, Calif., and Mildred Bradshaw, LaGrange, Mo., and three granddaughters. Services will be at 10 am Tuesday at the Ward Chapel, Chilhowee, graveside services will be at 4 pm in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Ewing. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 pm Monday at the chapel.
