Helen E. Draffen, 87, Michigan City, died Friday (April 15, 2005) at Life Care Center, Michigan City.
Private family services will be at a later date. Cremation will occur, with burial of ashes in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Draffen was born April 12, 1918, in Syracuse, Missouri, to Lester W. and Addie (Smith) Salmons, who are deceased. On Dec. 22, 1941, in Sedalia, Missouri, she married Wallace R. Draffen, who died on June 12, 2004.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara (Patrick) Malott, LaPorte; two grandchildren, Shaun (Robin) Malott, Elgin, Ill., and Patrick (Julie) Malott, Redwood City, California; and one sister, Velma Bottcher, Sedalaia.
Mrs. Draffen was preceded in death by four brothers, Douglas Salmons, Calvin Salmons, Donald Salmons and Cullie Salmons; and one sister, Ruby Perkins.
Mrs. Draffen was a homemaker and a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
