Odessa Purcell, 91, Bicknell, died at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, June 11,2009 at Freelandville Community Home.
Born March 3, 1918 in rural Bicknell, she was the daughter of Anna (Hankins)and Albert Wagoner. Odessa had worked in a defense factory in Washington and owned and operated Purcell Grocery in Edwardsport. She was a member of the Freelandville United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Donald Purcell, whom she married in January of 1946, passed away on Jan. 1, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Wagoner.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Purcell of Bloomington; a son, Gregory Purcell of Sandborn; one grandchild, Brandy James; two great-grandchildren, Tyler James and Alexis James; and two brothers, Lloyd Wagoner of Freelandville and Gerald Wagoner of Hamilton, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fredrick & Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel, 109 E. Sixth St., with Bill Cash officiating.
Burial will be in Freelandville Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions can be made to Freelandville Community Home Ambulance Bay Fund.
