Andrew and Samuel C. Christy were induced to leave Lawrence county and go to St. Louis by Col. Nicholas Jarrott of Cahokia, IL. The brothers engaged in various pursuits and eventually they aquired an interest in the Wiggins Ferry company, which they held until their deaths.

Tiffany Family Papers, a collection of letters reviewed by Frances H. Stadler, says that Samuel came from Ohio in about 1817 to Kaskaskia. He and Melanie made their home in St. Clair county, IL. He operated a ferry across the Mississippi at Jefferson Barracks in the 1820's, before going into the steam ferry business with his brother. Joined Wiggins in 1831. Samuel and his wife Melanie made their home with Nicholas Jarrot.
