Amsie Jeanne Somers Harper passed away November 16, 2010 and is survived by her Junior College sweetheart and husband James W. Harper, and her children, Ann Coldewey, Steve Somers, Sara Ferguson, and Jeanne Somers; and seven grandchildren. Somers, and her loving sisters and brother, Linda McCutcheon, William E. Remy, Kathora Remy, Mildred Carver and Doris Gale. She was a gift to many, seeing the best in all. In 1943, Amsie earned her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. After returning to San Antonio from living overseas and starting a family, she began a 22 year career teaching kindergarten at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She obtained a Master's degree in Education in 1971 from Trinity University, specializing in early childhood development. In a career change, she completed her M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling in 1984 from St. Mary's University. Continuing her professional development, Amsie became a Licensed Professional Counselor, practicing at Lutheran Social Services. She was also a founding member of the Counseling Associates of San Antonio, a private practice group. Among her many volunteer activities, Amsie found joy in serving at the Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center, KLRN, and served lifelong in many capacities at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
