MOUNT CARMEL - Frank Fox Adams passed away May 13, 2007, in Champaign, Ill., at the age of 81.
Frank was a graduate of Allendale High School and University of Illinois Veterinarian College. Mr. Adams served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman aboard the USS LSM 121. He served in the South Pacific and participated in the invasion of Okinawa.
He practiced Veterinary Medicine in the Mount Carmel area for 19 years and worked 19 years for the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture as a Field Veterinarian. He had owned and operated several farms in the Allendale area, including Little Rock Farm. He taught sciences for two years at the Allendale High School, served two terms as Wabash County Commissioner and served two years as Republican County Chairman and Precinct Committeeman. Dr. Adams served for 30 plus years as a Director of the First National Bank of Allendale-Mt. Carmel.
Frank had been a member of Mount Carmel VFW, American Legion, Mt. Carmel Moose and Eagles Clubs, Champaign Amvets, a 50-year member of the Mount Carmel Elks and was a charter member of the Allendale Ruritan Club.
He played independent basketball at Allendale for 25 years, bowled with the Mount Carmel Elks team for 40 years, loved to play cards, enjoyed Wabash River fishing, watching sports and spent the last 20 years as a golf addict.
He was married to Mary Irene Mullinax on November 22, 1944. Preceding him in death were his parents, Gentry and Marjorie Adams, and a son, Michael Dale Adams.
Surviving are his son, Dr. Gary Hite Adams (Nan) of Allendale; and daughter, Mindy Ann (Bill Summers) of Mount Carmel. Also surviving are his first cousin, Jerry (Roy) Coppinger of Scottsdale, Arizona; four grandchildren, Matthew Gentry Adams (Ashley) of Conway, Arkansas, Michael Baker of Mount Carmel, Emily and Kathryn Adams of Allendale; two great-grandchildren; and his companion of over 30 years, Nancy Coulter.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 17th at Heath & Vaughn Funeral Home in Champaign, Ill. An open reception in Frank's memory will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19th at the Mount Carmel, Ill., K of C Lodge.
