Robert E. "Bob" Countz, 90, of McAlester, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 in McAlester following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 31 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Jody Domingue officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Robert Erwin was born November 24, 1923 in Russellville, Arkansas, the son of Buena Rue "B.R." Countz & Stella Mae (Burnett) Countz. He was raised in Indianola where he attended Indianola School. Bob later entered the United States Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During his service he was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and served in the U.S. Army Battery A 611th F A (PK) Division. Robert married Irene Mae Bachman on August 31, 1946 in Junction City, Kansas. After he received his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Pittsburg County for a short time before moving to Martinez, California, where he began working for Shell Oil Company as a truck driver. Bob retired in 1971, having worked for over 24 years. After Bob's retirement, they moved to Indianola where he began working for Pittsburg Count District #3 as a dump truck operator. After having worked for 17 years for Pittsburg County, he began driving a truck for Conner Enterprises and later Ray Brewer Trucking. Bob finally retired at the age of 80 years old. Bob enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends of District #3 at the yearly fishing and camping trip to Camp Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents wife: Irene Mae (Bachman) Countz in 2007; mother-in-law & father in-law: Andrew & Mary Bachman; brother & sister-in-law: James & Billie (Sanders) Countz; brothers-in-law: Lyle Bachman, Frank Bachman; sister-in-law: Grace McCormick; and great-nephew: Robert Michael Countz.
