DEATH OF JOHN W. DENNY

Pioneer Citizen Passes Away Early This Morning

The funeral for John W. Denny, the Idaho pioneer who died at an early hour yesterday morning at his home on Adams Street, will be held on Thursday afternoon from the residence. A message announcing his death has been sent to his granddaughter, Mrs. Harry Dick, at Biggs, Oregon, and she is expected to reach here today.

Mr. Denny had been in ill health for many months and the family have realized that he could not recover. He had remained cheerful, however, until a few hours before his death when he told Mrs. Denny, he knew that the end was rapidly approaching. The cause of his death was a cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Denny was one of the best known of Idaho pioneers. He was born in Missouri seventy-seven years ago and as a young man went to California, later coming to Oregon and Idaho. He followed mining with the ruse of the gold seekers and established his home in Lewiston in the early '60's. For a number of years, he handled a large farm in what is now the heart of the Lewiston Orchards irrigated district. He acquired property in Lewiston and for a period was interested in a livery stable business. In recent years, with failing health, he secured a farm tract on the upper Clearwater River near Peck and divided his time between that place and his Lewiston home. Mr. Denny was a patient, kindly man, and cultivated a wide circle of friends.

He is survived by a wife and two sons, Benton Denny, who is farming in the Sweetwater section, and John Denny, Jr. of this city.
